چکیده

Standard lattice fermion algorithms run into the well-known sign problem at real chemical potential. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using imaginary chemical potential, and argue that it has advantages over other methods, particularly for probing the physics at finite temperature as well as density. As a feasibility study, we present numerical results for the partition function of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with imaginary chemical potential. We also note that systems with a net imbalance of isospin may be simulated using a real chemical potential that couples to I3 without suffering from the sign problem. Lattice QCD at finite isospin density

Nuclear matter has finite baryon number density, finite (negative) isospin density and, under certain conditions, finite (negative) strangeness density. Since having a finite chemical potential for baryon number makes the fermion determinant complex and simulations intractable, we restrict ourselves to zero baryon-number chemical potential. QCD at finite chemical potential μI for isospin (I3) a...

Lattice QCD at finite density: imaginary chemical potential

I describe the results for the critical line and the thermodynamics of different phases of QCD which have been obtained by lattice simulations with an imaginary chemical potential. I review motivations and merits of the different strategies – Taylor expansion, Fourier analysis and Pade’ approximants – for analytic continuation from imaginary to real chemical potential. I consider phenomenologic...

New possibilities for QCD at finite density

I review the growing theoretical indications that at high densities color SU(3) gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken by the formation of a quark pair condensate. This leads to a rich phase structure for QCD as a function of temperature and chemical potential. I also discuss the prospects for lattice QCD calculations at finite density, including the Glasgow algorithm and imaginary chemical pot...

Chiral symmetry restoration in the massive Thirring model at finite T and μ : Dimensional reduction and the Coulomb gas

Chiral symmetry restoration in the massive Thirring model at finite T and µ: Dimensional reduction and the Coulomb gas Abstract We show that in certain limits the (1+1)-dimensional massive Thirring model at finite temperature T is equivalent to a one-dimensional Coulomb gas of charged particles at the same T. This equivalence is then used to explore the phase structure of the massive Thirring m...
